True crime documentaries and faction can vary from the trashy, exploitative and gratuitous to the nuanced and sensitive. The latter avoid scenes of violence or sex (although most sex in the context of true crime is violence; power and hatred rather than love and laughter.)
The Sixth Commandment is an example of how to dramatise a disturbing criminal case with real feeling for the victims. The case will be familiar to many - a charismatic and wicked student active in the Church managed to defraud and hasten the deaths of two different highly intelligent individuals.
It’s easy to suppose that only fools become the victims of fraud, and that no one sensible would allow a stranger into their lives. But this is to forget the power of affection and love to those who live on their own, even when they have four lives with friends and families elsewhere.
