First of all, I’d like to apologise for the incompetent survey I sent you good people yesterday. Substack asked me if I wanted to send a survey. I didn’t, but I’m suggestible, so I clicked on the link and it asked me to write down some questions, so I scribbled it down some inane ones about what subscribers want to see in this blog and which if any pieces they enjoy. Then I clicked next, and then I was asked to write my survey. But I had already written the questions down, so I clicked next, and lo, you were all sent a blank page. Nice one, Sanai.
I thought I would write a light-hearted, frothy post for a change. Most of us are feeling the pressure from the dire state of the economy in our pockets. At the same time, it’s summer, arguably the happiest time of the year, when you can bask in the warm weather and not have to wrap up in multiple layers. So I’m sharing here a few of the garments I’ve seen or bought on sale this year, at prices that will not require an overdraft.
I only wear natural fabrics - synthetics feel so unbreathable that my skin prickles within a few minutes - so the dresses are all 100% cotton. I also like linen but it’s pricey and crumples as soon as I put it on, so I look as if I have spent the night on a park bench. And of course, wool is great for winter, but is hopefully not required for another few months.
So here are my favourite sale dresses this summer:
The Warehouse one was on sale in Secret Sales - I’m not sure if it’s still there.
And my favourite - unfortunately sold out in most sizes….this one from Monsoon:
Reduced from £90 to £36 in the few sizes left.
As for men, this cute little short suit is 100% cotton and also comes in navy. It’s on sale at Asos at the moment:
This smart cream suit, below, is 100% cotton but they have stuck a 100% polyester lining in the jacket. If you can tolerate it or rip it out, it’s quite a smart summer suit, and reduced:
Unisex stuff: if you’re looking for a pair of jeans, these ones are reduced. I can’t bear flares as I was a teenager in the early ‘80s, and bell-bottoms were anathema to us - they actually make me feel a bit sick. But I suppose if you’re not as old as me, and don’t remember seeing hippies flap about in them, you might like them. But of course, the jeans I picked out are not flares:
And these ones in grey, which stop just above the ankle, could be yours for the price of a croissant and latte:
Finally, my last bargain comes from Secret Sales. It’s these Kurt Geiger leather boots, reduced from £199 to £29. Reader, my feet may be plastic but I still bought them.
That’s it for today.
In the face of the abject failure of the survey I never wanted to send in the first place (I must stop being so suggestible), please do drop me a line letting me know which posts you like and which you dislike - art reviews, book reviews, NHS experiences, these fluffy fashion ones, etc.
Thank you for reading!
I like that monsoon dress!
In sentences I never thought I’d write…. I like the fashion 🫣 Also love art pieces….ach anything you write is great tbh!
