Early on in Candy we learn who the victim of this true crime dramatisation is, and soon after, we find out who killed her. The crux of the story is not when or where but why. And this five part TV mini series builds up to showing us why as well as how.
Shown first in the US in May 2022, Candy is the first TV drama made about this curious case, but unfortunately it is the second shown in the UK: the other series about this story, Love and Death, was made after Candy, but showed in the UK a year or so ago. Having seen it, this viewer knew the story, but it was still intriguing to see how the tale would be told this time.
The crime at the centre of Candy is the brutal murder of a Texan housewife in her own home. Because the weapon used to kill her was an axe which had reputedly been used over 40 times on her, when the death was discovered, the initial feeling in the community was that the perpetrator was a brutal, deranged male, perhaps a drifter who had gained entrance to the house.
